Painting the Car at Home - Paint and Clear Coat Application - Part 5/5 - Ford Ka 1998 [4K]
Applies paint and clear coat to the Ford Ka at home in the final stage of the main painting series. Also showcases the process wrap-up and the visual outcome achieved with DIY work
Tools used
- HVLP spray gun (suction/gravity feed) (Bottom cup (suction feed); Paulo adapted it using a small plastic bottle in place of the original cup)
- Air compressor (Small tank — caused pressure drop while running the sander, restricting continuous operation)
- Orbital sander (Pneumatic powered; use was limited by the small compressor — left deep sanding marks in the primer)
- 600-grit wet sandpaper (600 grit — first sanding pass over the basecoat)
- 800-grit wet sandpaper (800 grit — leveling out marks left by the 600-grit sandpaper)
- 1200-grit wet sandpaper (1200 grit — finishing stage; Paulo stopped at this grit during the first sanding sequence)
- 1500-grit wet sandpaper (1500 grit — final finishing stage during the second sanding sequence)
- Tack cloth (antidust cloth) (Used to clean and decontaminate the panel prior to applying clear coat)
