Good luck and happy maintenance!

Before adjusting the valves, complete these steps:

- Remove the engine cover

- Remove the air filter box assembly

- Disconnect the accelerator cable from the TBI/throttle body

- Remove the ignition coils

- Remove the intake manifold

- Remove the valve cover

After that, follow these steps:

1. With the engine below 38ºC, put the car in Neutral and position the camshaft pulley with the inscription “UP” facing up (the measuring and adjustment position for cylinder 1), aligned with the cylinder head. The lines on the pulley must also be parallel to the cylinder head (dotted line)

2. Select the correct feeler gauge blade to measure clearance between the rocker-arm adjusting screw and valve stem.

Acceptable clearances are:

Intake: Between 0.15mm and 0.19mm

Exhaust: Between 0.26mm and 0.30mm

The valves are arranged as shown below: exhaust valves above and intake valves below.

3. Slide the correct feeler gauge blade into the gap between the rocker-arm adjusting screw and valve stem. If adjustment is needed, loosen the locknut and turn the screw. Retighten the nut after adjusting. (Note: hold the screw in position while tightening the nut so the adjustment does not change.)

4. After adjusting cylinder 1, turn the engine ¼ turn clockwise until the pulley number “3” appears. Align the pulley mark with the cylinder head as in step 1, then check and adjust cylinder 3 clearance if needed.

5. After adjusting cylinder 3, turn the engine ¼ turn clockwise until the pulley number “4” appears. Align the pulley mark with the cylinder head as in step 1, then check and adjust cylinder 4 clearance if needed.

6. After adjusting cylinder 4, turn the engine ¼ turn clockwise until the pulley number “2” appears. Align the pulley mark with the cylinder head as in step 1, then check and adjust cylinder 2 clearance if needed.

7. After measuring and adjusting the clearance as needed, turn the engine through 2 full revolutions and repeat steps 1 to 6 to confirm the adjustment holds.

8. The procedure is complete. Reassemble as needed.
